FLORA AND FAUNA

COMMISSIONED PIECE

This piece was commissioned after a follower of mine was inspired by my flora and fauna fact cards, made for a market last summer. My client wanted a simplified natural scene of Iowa’s wildlife. We worked together to create the scene she envisioned, down to the last native flower and bird.

This piece was created with india ink, water color, and gauache on watercolor paper

Process

Sketching to Print

Sketching from nature and sharing on my social turned into a form or income. I started receiving inquires to create custom pieces from my followers and eventually lead to Flora and Fauna.

Production

Studies, Linework,
and Paint

Being primarily a digital artist, the production of this piece was a breathe of fresh air. You have to wait for the pen work and the paint to dry before you move on. This forced me to slow down and really think about how the piece was looking as a whole.

I think it’s important to never loose traditional techniques, hence why I sketch everything out before I work digitally.
